Dorm Room Essentials You Absolutely Need

Items you will ACTUALLY be grateful that you brought!

When moving into my dorm I thought I had way to much useless stuff that I was never going to use (somewhat true). But, the things I came to love I CANNOT live without and I am so grateful I have them! So, I have compiled a list of things I use everyday, if not multiple times a day, that are my non-negotiables.

This fan 100% lives up to the hype. I’m sure if you have started looking into buying anything for a dorm this will be the first thing to pop up. When I kept seeing this thing over and over I was like “come on, it can’t be that good.” But, this thing works so great! I haven’t turned this fan off since I moved into my dorm. It even has a remote which is super convenient.

Features: The woozoo fan oscillates horizontally and vertically which is why it is so amazing. It is also a smaller fan which works perfect for a dorm!

We did end up with a sink in out room at least (thankfully) so this filter was the most practical for us. If you have no sink, a regular brita works perfect too! We just love this one, it was easy to install, and have had zero issues with it!

Features: The Pur plus faucet mount is fairly small, installs in 5 minutes, and has a filter change light which is super helpful.

I decided on the sleepyhead mattress topper because of its good reviews. I do like it a lot and I would recommend it. There are definitely cheaper options but as long as you have a good mattress topper you will be set!

Features: The sleepyhead mattress topper is cooling and has a washable cover. It also came in the mail very compact which was super convenient for move in!

I love my command hooks and they come in so many varieties. I have some for my keys, our soap dispenser and my towel/robe. The easy removal is perfect for a dorm room. My room technically does not allow them so I used a lot of push pins but if you use a hair dryer before removing, you should have no problems!

Features: Command hooks are the perfect solution for temporary decor and you do not need much skill to hang them!

My roommate got this air purifier for our room and we love it! This one has great reviews and with stale dorm room air, this was much needed!

Features: The levoit air purifier made our room seem less stuffy and cleared some dust from our room that we worried would make us sick.

Our rug was a super last minute purchase but it was SO crucial to our room. It covers most of the floor (which is ugly brownish cold concrete), hides messes with the color, and makes the room cozy. I don’t know what we would do without it honestly!

Features: This rug is a good price for its size and is soft without being too fluffy which can get messy. There are also numerous size and color options of this product.

This outlet block is a surge protector, extension cord of course, and is compact. I have two of these and they are both very well used and loved, as you can tell! A lot of our outlets ended up upside down (apparently this happens a lot in dorms) so we could not use our wallflower anywhere else but this was a perfect solution! I love having the side usb/usb-c slots as well!

Features: This outlet block is a good size and has plenty of charging options. There are also multiple varieties of cord length and port type.

These 7 items are my favorite essentials that I could not live in a dorm without. They make my life so much easier and I hope you will find use out of them too!
