6 Things You Need to Add to Your Dorm Packing List

Adding these things to your dorm packing list will definitely make living in a dorm much better. These items aren’t technically things you will live without, but I certainly think they are necessities. I am defiantly obsessed with these items that I added to my dorm packing list and they will make your life so much easier!

1. Robe

Okay, before college I was never a robe girlie. When I got my dorm assignment however, I ended up with community bathrooms. It seemed like a nightmare at first but it has been just fine! I got a robe to go to and from the showers and it is the best thing ever. I came without one and soon realized that was a terrible idea. During the first week I ordered one and it is amazing!

2. Stone bath mat

I know what you’re thinking, you have community bathrooms, how can you use a bath mat? I use this as a place to set my shower caddy and shower shoes. It dries my products quickly and makes my room mess free from any extra water that might come off of anything from the shower.

3. Lighting

I don’t know about you but I am not a big fluorescent lighting fan. My three favorite extra lighting features I added to my room are my light cube, lamp, and neon sign. They are all different kinds of light, but all MUCH better than the overhead lights. They are all also fairly inexpensive for lighting features!

4. Wallflower

This might seem somewhat obvious but dorms do not have the most pleasant smell. This was one of the first things we plugged in in our room and it works so great! Within the first week we got so many compliments about how nice our room smells. I think that this is definitely a must have because everything you bring into or out of your dorm (food, trash, other people, gym clothes, etc.) can go throughout the whole room because of the size.

5. Fridge hutch

This product seems like a random addition but, any way to incorporate storage into your dorm is so crucial to fitting all your stuff. It is the most convenient way to store our plates, silverware, paper towels, hand towel, and snacks. It is the perfect space for our “kitchen” and we definitely use it everyday.

6. Bedding Accessories

In order to have a comfortable dorm bed, you have to go kinda crazy with the bedding accessories. I added 2 regular pillows, 3 throw pillows, 2 blankets, and a big comforter. I also have 2 mattress toppers which I LOVE. Throw pillows are a controversial dorm room necessity but, I love having them (I think three is a perfect number and I wouldn’t add any more) and they get used often. Friends will lay on my rug, sit next to me on my bed, and they all use the pillows as much as I do! The same thing goes for my blankets, they both get used and don’t take up too much space. Having a large comforter (I got a queen size) also means I don’t need a bed skirt!

I hope these products can help you spark ideas of things you might’ve forgotten or things you would want to add to your dorm to make your life easier. They are all my favorites and I hope you can get good use out of them!!
